- About the Mentor/Mentee Program
Program Overview
The Liberty School Mentor/Mentee Program provides an opportunity for Arts District Liberty Station tenant artists to develop the skills needed to teach within the Liberty School program.
All new instructors interested in teaching for Liberty School participate as Mentees, working alongside an experienced instructor (Mentor) during a full program session.
Throughout the session, mentors guide mentees through teaching strategies, classroom management, and program logistics. By the end of the mentorship period, mentees are prepared to lead Liberty School classes independently.
Program Expectations
During the mentorship session, mentors and mentees collaborate to review and discuss key aspects of the Liberty School teaching model, including:
- Establishing regular meeting times
- Reviewing PLC meeting logistics and questions
- Classroom management strategies
- Day-of teaching logistics
- Lesson planning guidelines
- California State Core Standards for the Arts
- Final program evaluations
This mentorship process ensures that all teaching artists are well prepared to support Liberty School students through meaningful arts education experiences.

Schedules and session timelines will be shared with participating mentors and mentees prior to each Liberty School program cycle.
Evaluations
At the conclusion of the session, both mentors and mentees complete evaluation forms to help strengthen the program and support future teaching artists.
