Art in public space belongs to everyone. It creates access without barriers, sparks conversation across differences, and strengthens cultural connection.

Rooted in the diversity of the San Diego–Baja region, Liberty Station Public Art highlights artists whose work reflect the stories, histories, and perspectives that shape our community.
Across the historic campus, installations contribute to a cultural landscape that is dynamic, inclusive, and continually evolving.

Installations at the Station

Established in 2017, the Art in Public Places Committee (AiPP) oversees the selection of temporary installations across the Arts District.

Through a request for qualifications process, artists are commissioned to exhibit work for one-year installations. This rotating model ensures the campus remains active and responsive to new voices and ideas. The mission of AiPP is to highlight the culture and diversity of the region while supporting artists through meaningful public engagement.

Experience the Open-Air Gallery

Explore public art throughout the Arts District by taking a tour through the Open-Air Gallery — a curated outdoor collection of temporary installations across the campus.
Look for the teal and white circular signs near each artwork and scan the QR code to access the digital tour. Visitors can learn about the artists, explore the inspiration behind each piece, and gain insight into the creative process through behind-the-scenes imagery and artist audio.

The digital experience is available in both English and Spanish.
