Building Community Through Creative Investment

Arts District Liberty Station tenants represent a wide spectrum of artistic disciplines, each bringing forward extraordinary ideas that spark creativity, expand perspectives, and attract new audiences. Everyone who visits the campus becomes part of this vibrant community, and our tenants are at the heart of that shared experience.

To strengthen their businesses, ADLS has supported tenant-driven initiatives since 2019 through dedicated funding opportunities. These funds are offered as Micro Grants to help individual tenant organizations bring bold ideas to life, as well as Collaborative Grants that encourage two or more tenants to come together on a shared project. Selected projects receive funding to bring new ideas, performances, workshops, and exhibitions to life across the campus. By offsetting the costs, the impact to the wider community is integral to our core mission.

Micro Grant Projects: Micro Grants

Micro Grants provide tenants with the peace of mind often needed to plan and host events while running a business. Though modest in size, these funds extend their reach far beyond a single project, amplifying impact across the community. There is nothing small about the ideas they bring to life. Selected projects have included funds for Grand Openings, First Friday Activations, Dance Movement Labs, Art Workshops, Summer Camp Scholarships, Artist Talks, Improv Workshop Series, Holiday Celebrations, and so much more.

Collaborative Grant Projects: Collaborative Grants

Bringing the campus together is a central goal of ADLS. Tenants are encouraged to collaborate and build partnerships that spark creative, innovative, and experiential projects, strengthening connections across Liberty Station.

Collaborative initiatives highlight the diversity of the Arts District community while strengthening partnerships between artists, organizations, and audiences. Projects have explored themes such as cultural identity, community healing, interdisciplinary collaboration, youth education, and cross-border artistic exchange.

Part of the international Make Music Day celebration, the Musical Playground is an interactive installation where visitors can explore rhythm and sound using instruments made from upcycled materials.

Strengthening the Arts District Community

The Arts District Community Impact Fund fosters the spirit of creativity in tenants, regardless of means. By supporting imaginative proposals from tenants, the funding program encourages experimentation, collaboration, and shared cultural experiences that enrich the broader San Diego Community.
