Friends of Arts District Liberty Station

Friends of Arts District Liberty Station is the next chapter of the community membership program formerly known as Friends of NTC. Rooted in the creative spirit of Arts District Liberty Station, Friends is a growing network of neighbors, artists, and supporters who believe in the power of arts and culture to connect and inspire.
Members enjoy special invitations, behind-the-scenes access, and meaningful opportunities to engage with the campus’s 120+ creative tenants. Most importantly, Friends provide vital annual support that sustains historic buildings, fuels public programming, and strengthens this vibrant cultural hub for all.

Why Become a Friend?

Friends of Arts District Liberty Station are community-minded individuals who value creativity, culture, and shared experiences. They enjoy discovering new restaurants, attending performances and exhibitions, and connecting with fellow art lovers across a campus that includes nearly 120 galleries, museums, studios, and dining destinations.

Since 2000, Arts District Liberty Station has transformed this former Naval Training Center into a thriving cultural hub—one that respects its Navy heritage while building an inclusive, creative future for San Diego.

Your Impact as a Friend

Your membership contributes to the elevating and sustaining of our programs:

Art in Public Places

Paid commissions for artists to create public art that populates the campus; studio residencies for early-career visual and dance artists from the transborder region; and the David G. Fleet Curator-in-Residence program for curators to realize exhibitions in Gallery 201 and support the Arts District team in activating the campus in engaging and inclusive ways.

Liberty School

Community arts education and learning opportunities for local elementary and middle school students offered during the school day at the Arts District campus. Our team partners with artists and tenants throughout the campus to design and deliver high quality programming – in visual arts, dance, theater, improv, culinary and martial arts, and more – for students at Title 1 schools where access to the arts is limited.

Tenant Funding & Community Partnerships

From our Summer Arts Fest to Art Walk, to collaborations with organizations and artists throughout the region and on both sides of the border, community partners expand the reach of the campus and audience. Our tenant funding provides grants to artists, nonprofits, and creative businesses in Arts District to activate the campus – like offering a workshop or concert on a First Friday, host a small festival in textile arts or crafting, or Make Music Day.

Become Part of the Community that Keeps Creativity Thriving

Arts District Liberty Station is sustained by a community of supporters who believe in the power of art, culture, and connection. Their generosity helps fund arts education, public art, artist residencies, and cultural programs that enrich San Diego and inspire future generations.
By becoming a Friend of Arts District Liberty Station, you help ensure this historic campus continues to support artists, welcome visitors, and create meaningful cultural experiences for the entire community.
