Arts District Liberty Station

Two decades ago, we embarked on an unprecedented opportunity for San Diego to create Arts District Liberty Station, a significant new flagship destination for arts and culture at the former Naval Training Center San Diego in Point Loma. This new mission to create a significant legacy for the community is being realized. Just as the 1915 Panama–California Exposition helped establish the jewel of Balboa Park, a burgeoning hub for life and culture continues to grow into a premier gathering place for visitors and locals alike.

Arts District Liberty Station formalized its commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA), recognizing that arts and culture can inspire social change. We will ensure that Arts District Liberty Station mirrors the rich diversity of our binational region, is welcoming and inviting to all, embraces the diversity of artists and art forms, and constantly provides new opportunities for creating and for enjoying. IDEA will be a guidepost for our intentions and actions in enhancing staff and Board leadership, creative community relations, visitor services, program offerings, partnership development, and communications and outreach to San Diego’s communities. We do this because it is the right thing to do … in perpetuity.

Arts District Liberty Station

San Diego’s newest cultural mecca—a destination for arts and culture at the former Naval Training Center San Diego in Point Loma’s Liberty Station. With 17 of 26 historic buildings completed, Arts District Liberty Station is home to over 100 tenants, including artists, galleries, creative businesses, museums, dining, retail, and nonprofits serving San Diego. With millions of visitors each year, Arts District Liberty Station is adding economic impact and jobs to what was once a shuttered Navy base.
